I love using vinyl and have been contemplating putting a big calendar in our home somewhere.  Paper calendars are so final, I was looking for something erasable and changeable that still had a similar format.  When I orignally contemplated a vinyl calendar in the past, I was worried that it would start to peel up around the edges from wiping the surface over and over.  PLUS, what adverse affects would surface cleaner cause (depending on the surface).  So, I kept putting of the idea……….. until now!  So here is our DIY Vinyl Frame Calendar with {FREE CUT FILE}!

Black Adhesive Vinyl 12×40 (I got mine at Expressions Vinyl by the roll!)

16×20 Float Frame (I picked mine up at JoAnn’s with a coupon!)

So on to my epiphany… and this may seem like a simple solution to some of you, but I was pretty darn proud of myself!

See, I told you it was simple!  With the vinyl on the inside of your glass, there’s no need to worry about distorting the vinyl or damaging the design with harsh chemicals, you can use regular glass cleaner!

So, there’s really not much to this tutorial, you simply apply the vinyl to the reverse side of the glass.  The only trick, besides applying a large vinyl decal to a clear surface, is cutting and lining up the two cut files.  What did you say about two cut files?  Well, what you may have already assumed if you noticed the size of the frame, is that our silhouette cannot cut a decal that is 16×20.  If you have a cameo, this part will be relatively easy for you, just break it down into two separate cuts.  If you have a Portrait…. well, it all of a sudden becomes much harder unless you scale down the design to fit a smaller frame.

  1. Kathy@Smile For No Reason

This is such a great idea. I have ideas in my head for those of us who do not have a Silhouette Machine.
    Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for stopping by Kathy! I’m sure you could grab a sharpie marker and a ruler and accomplish the same thing! I just don’t have that type of artistic ability, LOL.

  2. Christine | Where The Smiles Have Been

Once my son gets a little older and we start having a super busy schedule with his school and teams and the like, I am SO doing this! Thanks for a great idea!

Thanks Christine! I know what you mean, my kids definitely have busier lives than I do! Between sports, activities and their friends, it gets very overwhelming! Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Kerri KC

That turned out great! I love how you thought to put it on the reverse side! Clever!

Thanks Kerri! It was a late night epiphany that I actually remembered to try out! I’m very happy with it! Now….. remembering to look at it, LOL. Thanks again!

  4. Michele @ Our Rosey Life

Becky ~ Genius! This is genius! I love that you used a frame and by placing the vinyl on the underside of the glass, it’s re-useable each week. Way to go!
