Vintage Christmas Tree Truck Cutout with an AMAZING GIVEAWAY

500x200button-1

If you’ve been following me on social media, you probably know that I am absolutely in love with these vintage Christmas tree trucks this year!  I can’t seem to get enough and my Silhouette make it soooo easy to dress everything up to match.  So because I love my Silhouette so much, I decided to team up with some of my fellow bloggers to bring you another AMAZING SILHOUETTE GIVEAWAY!

First and foremost, I really do have to give all the credit to Build-A-Cross.  I stumbled across them a few years ago when I was hosting some DIY painting parties (which are pretty fabulous and highly recommended).  So anywho, I opened a wholesale account with Build-A-Cross and have been just head-over-heels in love with them and their products ever since!  So that’s who we’re going to talk about today, AND I’m going to show you how to make it work with your Silhouette!

So I have absolutely been in love with these vintage Christmas tree trucks this season, and my paint parties are no exception.  I decided to create a custom cutout and sent it over to Build-A-Cross to add a new item to my arsenal.  Silhouette Studio is always my designing software of choice, so I opened it up and got to creating.

When I was satisfied with my design, I welded it all together and filled it with black.  This gave me a solid outline of what the cutout should look like.  I saved my original off to the side to use as a painting guide when I was ready to paint.

Now of course, Build-A-Cross only needed the outline, so I saved a copy of just the outline and emailed it over.  I have Bullzip installed on my PC, which is useful in printing as a PDF and printing as images such as PNG or JPEG.  When you are sending items over to Build-A-Cross, or any vendor, remember that you can only send designs that you have created yourself or you are entitled to reproduce with a commercial license.  This is absolutely vital, so please make a note of it.

Also, as with any custom vendor, there are usually fees associated with creating a custom order.  This is to be expected, since the vendors are creating a custom piece just for you and it takes more time than just whipping up one of their standard, in stock pieces.  Build-A-Cross has always been vary accommodating, but just keep that in mind when expecting a custom order.

Now… on to the painting!  I used regular acrylic crafter’s paint.  I didn’t have to prime, I didn’t have to sand, these babies come ready to paint straight out of the box (one benefit of using MDF board).  Of course, I broke out my laptop to reference my original design.  Here was my painting scene.  Don’t judge my workspace too hard, this is my box storing room (wink, wink).

So naturally, the level of complexity to get with your cutouts will depend on your painting skill, but don’t be shy!  Order a few stock pieces before you get all crazy with it, but definitely give it a chance.  Once I was done painting, I added a vinyl quote, courtesy of my Silhouette, and this baby was ready to put on display (or give as a gift, as it turned out).

Ok, I love everything about this!! I never knew a custom cut out place like that existed, so neat…and I absolutely love your design. The hand painted element is lovely, and it pairs so well with the stenciled lettering. Just perfect!
