DIY Grandparent’s Sign with Photo Frame

500x200button (1)

It’s that time again, our monthly Silhouette Challenge group post!  Yippee!  This month’s challenge theme is Home Decor and {MAN, OH MAN} do we have some awesome projects for you to check out!  Start the fun here with us and our DIY Grandparent’s Sign with Photo Frame, then scroll down to check out tons of crafts and inspiration!

With Grandparent’s Day coming up, I was completely stumped on what to get for my father, the kids’ Papaw.  He’s the typical manly man with everything under the sun tucked away in the garage, making him extra hard to buy for.  He’s getting sentimental in his old age (haha!) and of course I went straight to Pinterest to find the perfect gift.  As soon as I saw this quote I knew it would be perfect, but I did have to “man it up” a little so that he would be proud to display it in his Man Cave (aka the garage).

DIY Grandparent's Photo Frame Sign by My Paper Craze

INSTRUCTIONS

– I started off by purchasing an unfinished wood board from the Home Depot

– Next, I used standard Krylon spray paint in black to cover the entire surface

– After drying, I slightly distressed the edges with sandpaper.

– Very carefully, I applied the saying in white vinyl for the most contrast.  Don’t forget to leave enough room for your photo frame!

– With the vinyl in place, I covered the sign in clear polyurethane spray to protect it from moisture

– When attaching the frame, I chose to use Velcro tabs so that the frame is removable

– With the Velcro tabs attached to each other, remove the adhesive backing off one side of the Velcro tabs and place it on the back of the photo frame, NOT the sign

– Line up the photo frame on the wood, remove the backing of the opposing side of the Velcro tabs and stick in place

This lucky Papaw can change out the photos as the kids grow older, or keep it as is for a great memory.  Either way, it’s his choice and that was my motivation.  When we did the big reveal, he seemed genuinely pleased and immediately put it up on display.  He has yet to switch out the photo, so I imagine we’ll be reminiscing on this photo years from now, when the kids are too big to cuddle and off with their teenage friends {SIGH}.  Memories.
